National Documents Research Center of Southwest University for Nationalities

To Hold Gold • Mr. Smith, the second anniversary of his passing away.

Winter always makes people miss those who are passed away, especially great men who made a great contributions to the development and dissemination of human culture, For the people of the Documentation Center of Southwest University for Nationalities, December 16 of each year is such a memorable thanks- giving day, because this day is dedicated to the lifelong effort of internationally famous Tibetologist, E.Gene Smith.

On December 16th,the National Documents Research Center of Southwest University for Nationalities Museum in the morning of the same day he passed away, Mr. Smith’s death anniversary activities are held. The center’s staff presented khatas to Mr. Smith’s statue,and expressed their profound nostalgia for Mr. Smith and the highest respect. They will continue to follow Mr.Smith’s path of selfless devotion, and dedicate to devote their efforts for the development and dissemination of the cause of Tibetan literature.

It is understood that, in order to take practical action regarding Mr. Smith’s life’s work, in order to allow more Chinese readers to understand, since last year, the documentation center staff began to translate Mr.Smith’s monograph “Tibetan literature – Himalayan plateau history and Literature “(Among Tibetan Texts: History and Literature of the Himalayan Plateau), is expected to be published next year.

举行“金•史密斯先生逝世两周年纪念”活动

寒冬年末,总是让人怀念那些已故的人们,特别是那些为人类文化的发展和传播做出巨大贡献的伟人。对于西南民族大学民族文献中心的人们来说,每年的12月16日正是这样一个值得纪念和感恩的日子,因为这一天是将自己毕生心血奉献给藏学文献事业的国际著名藏学家、藏学文献学家金•史密斯(Ellis Gene Smith)先生逝世的日子。

与往年一样,作为金•史密斯先生文献捐赠的受赠单位,西南民族大学民族文献研究中心于当日上午在金•史密斯文献馆举行了“金•史密斯先生逝世两周年纪念”活动,中心全体工作人员向金•史密斯先生塑像敬献了哈达,表达了他们对金先生的深刻缅怀之情和崇高的敬意。他们表示将继续学习金先生的无私奉献精神,爱岗敬业,为藏学文献事业的发展和传播付出自己的努力。

据悉,为了以实际行动向金•史密斯先生学习,也为了让更多的国内读者了解他的相关文献著作,从去年起,文献中心工作人员开始翻译金先生的专著《藏文文献——喜马拉雅高原的历史与文学》(Among Tibetan Texts:History and Literature of the Himalayan Plateau)一书,有望在明年出版。
