Importance of the Written Word
The bedrock of each and every lineage in Tibetan Buddhism is a text. In order to sustain the continuity of these traditions, teachers read aloud from the text that they are imparting and elucidating. This aural expression of the text dates back to the early days of Buddhism when the followers of the Buddha in India would gather to collectively recite what the Buddha had taught. As keepers of these Buddhist texts in their Tibetan versions, the TBRC Library serves as a source for these vital transmissions. In this way, lineage-holders are able to easily access the texts necessary for teaching, authorizing transmissions, bestowing blessings, and insuring the continuity of the Buddhist traditions.
